THE GOLDEN RULE:
DO NOT – UNDER ANY CONDITIONS, BRING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES TO THE RANGE!!! PLEASE DO NOT SHOW UP AT THE RANGE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR ANY OTHER SUBSTANCE. IF YOUR GUEST BREAKS THIS LAW, “IT IS AS IF YOUR GUEST IS YOU AND YOU ARE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACTIONS OF YOUR GUESTS, AND/OR FAMILY MEMBERS”. “ANY VIOLATION OF ALL THE ABOVE IS CAUSE FOR IMMEDIATE TERMINATION OF YOUR MEMBERSHIP, AND THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS”.
Additional safety rules to always keep in mind:
Eye and ear protection required when using firearms at UGC, at all times.
Ear protection required when at firing line and/or shooting bench area at all times.
Keep doors of high power range closed to reduce noise reflected towards our neighbors to the south.
No .50 caliber BMG rifles allowed.
No armor piercing bullets allowed.
No rapid fire, machine gun like sound, on any range. Rapid weapon fire creates problems with our neighbors.
There is NO hunting on club property. Ukiah Gun Club is a safe bird & animal zone.
Members may not shoot at hard targets (metal etc.) closer than 100 yards (ricochet hazard).
Do not shoot at targets that break or cause litter (glass, cans, foreign objects etc) clay-trap birds are the only exception.
Do not shoot at target frames. They (target frames) take hits, but please do not aim at them, “costs money”.
Please clean up your shooting area and dispose of trash in trash receptacles provided at each range. Please clean up behind others not so courteous, “your effort has its just reward”. Please report any violations.
Please remove paper targets when finished (wind tends to blow them all over the area).
Very important: “DO NOT leave children unattended”. Need we say more on this?
The Helldorado or “Cowboy Action Range” Absolutely no shotgun slugs or 00-Buck ammo allowed on Helldorado. This new pistol range is restricted to the use of handguns and/or rifles firing lead bullets ONLY with a muzzle velocity no greater than 1600 fps. However, jacketed bullets may be used in handguns only, and ONLY when firing at paper targets mounted on wood back stand. DO NOT USE JACKETED BULLETS AT THE HELLDORADO RANGE WHEN FIRING AT ANY METAL PLATE (GONG TYPE) TARGETS, “STEEL PLATE TARGETS ARE FOR LEAD BULLETS ONLY!” NO EXCEPTIONS.
HIGH POWER RANGE; RE: “GOING DOWN RANGE” and “DOWN RANGE SIGNS”. There are two (2) signs at the center of the range, next to the wood burning stove, which are visible to both sides of the range when down. And there are also flashing red strobe lights, on/off switch is located on the center post firing line. When you arrive at the range, you must observe these signs and lights. If the signs are down and lights are flashing, THE RANGE IS CLOSED, CEASE FIRE IS IN EFFECT AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO HANDLING OF ANY FIREARMS WHAT-SO-EVER! Once the firing range is clear (of people checking targets), and the down range signs are cleared, the flashing strobe lights are off and “RANGE IS HOT!” is called out, it is only then that you may unpack your firearms and set up your bench. Keep in mind that if you are down range checking your targets, you DO NOT want to look back and see someone who just arrived handling their firearms. “Think about it”. This safety rule goes beyond courtesy; “it just makes sense, plain and simple”.
DOWN RANGE COURTESY: Most members who are working on a gun and desire to check targets often (as much as every shot) usually try to use the range on an off day when they are by themselves. Conflicts may occur when precision shooters and plinkers use the range at the same time. Please talk to each other and try to reach a viable accommodation. The rule however is as follows: The rule is that the cease fire rule is in effect every time someone wants to go down range. And there is absolutely NO EXCEPTION to this rule.
ELEVATION AND CROSS RANGE: DO NOT shoot or place targets higher than the contour where the 300 yard target is located. Cross range firing is absolutely forbidden. These rules are NOT meant to be broken, and violators of these rules will be dealt with. You have been warned!
CARETAKER: In the absence of a board member, “THE CARETAKER IS IN CHARGE”. If the caretaker asks you to do something, or if he asks you NOT to do something, please cooperate. If you ignore, or resist the guidance or instruction of the caretaker you will be subject to UGC Board of Directors disciplinary action, “RIGHT OR WRONG” if you disagree with the caretaker, you must please, first and foremost cooperate with his decisions. And discuss your concerns with the Board of Directors at a later date and time.
WORK HOURS: Members are reminded of the six (6) hours annual work that is required if you chose to save $50.00 OFF the Standard $125.00 annual dues. This volunteer work is to be completed by (end of fiscal) June 30th. If you have not completed your work hours by June 30th, you are obligated to reimburse The Ukiah Gun Club the $50.00 you were given as a promise to participate in the maintenance of UGC (or $8.33 per hour for time NOT worked). The work hour’s program is set up for members who desire in maintaining the club and it is up to the member to fulfill their work hours. Working members are politely reminded that work is the obligation of the member. We will not call you, we will not send out letters, or Email reminders.
