The Ukiah Gun Club is affiliated with the International
Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA). Matches are generally held the third
Saturday of each month with a mandatory briefing at 0900 and then at 0930
the competition begins.
Defensive Pistol shooting as a sport is simply the use of practical
equipment including full charge service ammunition to solve simulated "real
world" self-defense scenarios. Shooters competing in Defensive Pistol
events are required to use practical handguns and holsters that are truly
suitable for self-defense use. No "competition only" equipment is permitted
in Defensive Pistol matches since the main goal is to test the skill and
ability of the individual, not their equipment or gamesmanship. RELOAD.

Carry Concealed Weapon Training (CCW)
The Ukiah Gun Club has offered a CCW (Carry Concealed Weapon) class for about 8 years. This is a two day class and is normally given on a weekend. Successful students in the class receive a Certificate of Training which allows them to apply for a CCW license from the Sheriff. The club has nothing to do with issuing the license.
The course covers gun safety, justification for the use of deadly force, mind set, California and Federal gun laws, and other related subjects. A major emphasis is on proper gun handling techniques and marksmanship for self defense use of handguns. Students can expect to fire over two hundred rounds of ammo during the class.
The CCW class has been very popular and is given several times a year. There is a fee for the class and there is usually a waiting list.
